XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) – Overview
XAT or Xavier Aptitude Test is a prestigious national-level management entrance exam for MBA or PGDM admission in India conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of XAMI members for more than 75 years, to check the critical thinking and decision-making ability in the prospecting student (future business leaders).
XAT is conducting on 1st week of January every year. For the current academic session (2026-28 batch), XAT 2026 is going to be held on 04th January 2026 (2:00 PM to 5:00 PM).
XAT consists of 4 (four) sections, around 95 questions and exam duration would be 180 minutes (3:00 hrs).

In Part I, there is -0.25 for incorrect answers and -0.10 after 8 unattempted questions. No negative marking in GK.
Latest Changes in XAT Exam
- Total No. of Questions has been reduced from 101 to 95
- No. of Questions in the GK Section has been reduced from 25 to 20. 12 on Current affairs and 8 on static GK
- Exam Duration has been reduced from 210 mins to 180 mins.
- Exam divided in two parts – Part-1 is of 170 mins for VALR, QA & DI, and DM and the Part-2 is of 10 mins for GK section.
- GK score will be only used by XLRI for the Final selection.

Admission Process in XAT Colleges
Admission process for MBA Colleges in India through XAT is same as the regular admission process available in India. To get MBA Admission in India, aspiring students need to meet the prerequisite eligibility requirements such as:
- You must have passed graduation from any recognized university with minimum 50% aggregate marks.
- If you are in final of your graduation, you can also apply for MBA admission, but you must cross the minimum marks barrier
